University of Texas Fashion Group Announces 2013 Show – "Transcend"
Each year in Austin the annual UT fashion show gets better and better. Attendance increases and the fashion designs also get better. This year’s annual UT fashion show entitled Transcend, is inspired by the ability to go beyond limits, and embodies this notion fully. The students are encouraged to push boundaries and follow their passions, lending to a creative and one-of-a-kind experience for the audience.
You know the UT show is gaining in popularity and following when last year stylist Brad Goreski of Bravo TV”s show “It’s a Brad Brad World” tweeted to more than 150,000 followers “Congratulations the UT Fashion Show was fabulous!” Other famous UT Ex’s were also in attendance including Ross Bennett of NBC’s Fashion Star cast and Lauren Polt of the famous gameday sports dress line, chicka-d.
Stephen McMillian Moser, style editor of the Austin Chronicle, said, “I attended last Thursday’s UT Fashion Show Contour. It can be called the biggest, most well attended, best-produced show in town. The production values are stunning, and for a few minutes you can actually imagine you’re at a couture show in New York”.
The 2012 show was well attended and in the last 13 years has grown from an audience of 500 in 1997 to 5,000 in 2012.
The apparel design students will present more than 120 original designs on the runway. There will be a variety of sewing techniques and an array of exciting collections produced by this year’s group of talented young designers. The apparel design students study an extensive range of topics in their undergraduate program, including science and business classes to successfully prepare them for a career in the apparel industry.
A panel of local industry professionals will award prizes for Best Fashion Collection, Most Innovative Fashion Collection, Most Marketable Fashion Collection, Best Technical Collection, Best Evening Gown and Best Bridal Gown.
Mark your calendar for Thursday, April 18, 2013. The show begins at 7pm at the Frank Erwin Center. It’s free and open to the public.
