Famous Fashion Icons To Lead Fashion Panels During SXSW
SXSW will again have a fashion component to the lineup of fun during the week-long list of interactive, film and music entertainment. The founders of the former Style X (pronounced Style by) Joah Spearman and partner Jon Pattillo are planning something a little different this year.
The Neighborhood & HuffPost’s ‘Style Sessions’ will be a welcome mix to those who gravitate to fashion more than music, or both. The famous John Varvatos, designer and cast member of the NBC’s Fashion Star along with designer Billy Reid will be on hand. Reid, a 2012 Council of Fashion Designers of America Menswear Designer of the Year will be part of the anchor team for this new fashion venture. Austin is home to Reid’s newest boutique located at 1122 West 6th Street.
Varvatos, a well-known fashion icon since the 1980’s, got his start back at Polo Ralph Lauren then moved on to head up the menswear design department at Calvin Klein. He returned to RL in the 1990’s and in 2000 he was awarded the Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Award for New Menswear Designer and in 2001 & 2005 he won the CFDA Designer of the Year Award. In 2007 he was honored with the GQ Magazine Designer of the year. John’s music side of his personality has also fueled his brand and active with the Save the Music Foundation.
Mark your style calendars for March 11-14. The festivities are scheduled to take place in the 2nd Street District. The event is free and you don’t have to have wrist bands to attend. Thank you Joah and Jon for continuing to help grown the Austin fashion scene during the SXSW festival. Many of us have know for years that when there is music, there is fashion. Kind of a no brainer.
