Spring 2015 Nail Trends From New York Fashion Week
When you’re walking out the door dressed in your favorite outfit complete with those amazing shoes there is one added accessory you cannot forget to totally pull your look together. Are your nails as gorgeous as your totally pulled together look? Manicured nails to compliment your outfit is a necessity for any fashionista. Years ago, fashion shows didn’t feature nails as a part of the total look for a collection, but now it as important as planning the latest hair and makeup trends. New looks for Spring 2015 are colorful, have some sparkle and some get the “wow” factor. The red carpet shows even have “mani cam” to show off the celebrities’ manicures, complementing their designer dresses. From the end of the runway at New York Fashion Week I was able to capture the trends, from the popular sheer/ nude look at the Nanette Lepore and Lela Rose shows. While darker and traditional hues were preferred at Zang Toi and Herve Leger. Metallic polish in silver and gold was also very strong on the catwalk.
Backstage at the Lela Rose show, I got a first-hand look at what the nail art team from Butter London created. “We wanted to create a true manicured nail that was very chic, finger elongating, and very expensive looking and opulent”, said lead nail artist Katie Jane Hughes from Butter London. “We used a nail foundation which, is a base coat that has a very creamy color to it, and it basically evens out any imperfections on the nail bed. It’s like a tint of moisturizer for your nails. Then, on a couple of random nails we used these cute little studs. Lela like these because they looked like pearls.”
Once complete, the models’ hands were runway ready with a velvety nude look that is easy to wear with any outfit with an added touch of bling. Very chic!
At her New York show, Austin designer Isabella Rose Taylor, had her models wearing a custom “monotone” inspired nail look for her runway collection. Alexis Irene, lead nail artist for the Isabella Rose collection created a custom all grey nail and referred to it as the “50 Shades of Gray” look. Simple, easy and complimented Isabella’s collection perfectly. So the next time you step out, make sure your nails are as on trend as your shoes!
