Red Carpet Ready
It’s one of the most exciting things to see…a beautiful flowy gown floating down the runway or a sequined encrusted dress that takes my breath away as I see it come towards the press pit filled with clicking cameras. Through the view finder of my camera I take a brief peek from around my camera lens and I watch the model walk and I say to myself maybe this dress could be an award-winning gown I might see on a red carpet tv show.
The shows at Fashion Week feature mostly ready-to-wear collections, swimwear, sportswear , shorts and the Spring 2014 trends, garments we will see on our boutique racks come February. While the everyday wear is fun to see, give me the glitz and glamour of a red carpet gown anyway of the week. Isn’t it what fashion is all about and what gives a fashion show that ending WOW factor? Isn’t that why a designer leaves the wedding gown or that red carpet dress for the end?

Red Carpet gowns shown on the runways were over the top seen in floral chiffons (big Spring trend) at Rebecca Minkoff, opulent lace at Naeem Kahn and Hollywood 40’s glam from Badgley Mischka. Black and white gowns were also strong shown in mixed textures from many collections and held true to the black and white trend that will be huge come Spring.
Naeem Kahn, a popular red carpet designer with the stars said, “This collection is predominately red carpet when you think of it. I mean each dress is made to make you look and feel like a million dollars and I’m sure a lot of people will be wearing it.” Many celebs have indeed walked the red carpet in a Naeem Kahn gown, most recently Stacy Keibler wore a black and gray skin tight column gown from his collection at the Oscars which I saw on the runway in February 2013 .. thankfully the Stacy wore the dress lined! and Nicole Richie wore another column gown in sky blue detailed with sequins on top of elaborate floral embroidered lace at the Golden Globes in January 2013. That blue dress was one of my favorites out that collection and Nicole wore it beautifully.
I also caught up with one of my favorite guys at Fashion Week, E!’s Robbie Laughlin who has a new show on E! airing soon, Who Wore it Better. When I asked him about the red carpet and who he would like to see change it up a bit, Robbie said, I love Sofia Vergara, and she always does the mermaid cut, she has an hourglass figure, but I would definitely like to see her switch things up and really take a major risk. And she’s such a beautiful woman, I can’t imagine it not paying off”.
Shoes and bags were equally as beautiful as the gowns. Strappy sandles with ankle details were strong and bags were as colorful and detailed as the gowns they were paired with complete with pastel-colored nails to complete the look.
There is no shortage of romantic, soft-colored gowns to choose from come Spring and if you don’t look like a Hollywood glam starlet this season then you’ll have to make up a reason why not.
