Project Runway Season 11 – Lifetime Throws a Curve to the Press
The Project Runway fashion reality series has catapulted many new up-and-comers through the years and shed a lot of light on how the fashion industry works for mainstream America to see. Some of the winners have become household names like Christian Siriano, Mondo, Michael Costello and Chloe Dao, and other contestants have launched successful brands all thanks to the media attention. Others have been dismissed but they are remembered by Michael Kors’ “Korisms” or Heidi Klum’s “You’re Out”!
The prize for each season is to show a final collection at New York Fashion Week. The ultimate of first-class styling, the television shooting schedule has made it challenging. Of course, the cat can’t be let out of the bag in terms of who is still competing for the prize. So everyone got to show a collection at Fashion Week regardless of whether or not they’re still on the show.
The Fab Four walked out to the waiting crowd (enter the slow motion and epic music) Heidi Klum, Zac Posen, Michael Kors and Nina Garcia. After the end of the runway photo op, Heidi Klum explained to the audience the format was changing this time because like fashion it comes and goes. This time, we are left with even more anticipation of the finalist.
I lost count of exactly how many collections there were after around the fourth one. Some of the collections were outstanding while others lacked styling and polish. One collection will win for the most outrageous headwear. It’s the strangest I have ever encountered at a fashion show. They drowned out the models faces and distracted the clothing. The black suit jacket with the gold grommets was certainly a highlight.
Austin designer Daniel Esquivel is anticipated to do well in the show and of course, we are rooting for another Texan to remind the world everything IS bigger in Texas and it’s not just our hair.
