Kendra Scott Lands a Co-Host Gig for CNBC Show – Crowd Rules
What began as a dream backed by only $500 in 2002 has grown into an amazing jewelry line that is known globally and worth millions! Kendra Scott sells her luxury line at places like Neiman Marcus and Lord and Taylor and to celebrities such as Eva Longoria and Cameron Diaz.
With a motto of “family, fashion and philanthropy,” Scott juggles all of this fashionable success, while raising two sons – and being six months pregnant! – and her family couldn’t be happier for her.
“It’s crazy that we started in a dining room and have grown to this,” said Kendra’s mom. “We’re so proud!”
Recently, the designer was deemed the fastest-growing company, a best place to work and the 2013 Austin Under 40 Business & Entrepreneurship Award by The Austin Business Journal, as well as Austinite of the Year.
But wait, there’s more! During Austin Fashion Week, she received a golden boot for being a 2013 Trailblazer, and on Tuesday night, CNBC aired a new show, Crowd Rules, a small-business competition to win $50,000. The network reached out to Scott to co-host, since she’s been there and done that.
Scott was on The Today Show the morning of the Crowd Rules premiere, and when asked if she was going to stay in New York to watch, she just laughed.
“Are you kidding me? I’ve got a party waiting for me, full of the people who have supported me and cared for me the whole way!”
And indeed, jewelry-loving guests gathered at Sixth Street’s Star Bar on Tuesday to watch the show with Scott, her family and friends. The premiering episode focused on businesses with specialty foods, which are near and dear to Scott’s heart, being from Austin. She hopes that some of our fun eateries can be featured on the show someday…though she’s not promising she won’t be biased!
The designer even surprised guests by shipping down the three foods seen in the night’s show, letting the crowd sample Picklelicious pickles, Heartbreaking Dawns hot sauce and Mr. Green Tea ice cream along with the crowd on TV.
The night got even more exciting when Scott used commercial breaks to give away prizes – like the jewelry she wore on the show, $150 to Uchi and some of the food from the show. Obviously this girl is doing doing pretty well for herself, since at the end of the night, everyone got free jewels, and ATX couldn’t be happier!
“Since fashion week just happened, tonight is building off of a wonderful experience in Austin, and it’s so great to have all of this in our little city,” said Marcia Levy, co-chair co-chair of Comprehensive Breast Cancer Steering Committee/Seton Hospital. “And Kendra’s such a great supporter of Seton, so we’re happy to be a part of it!”
Be sure to catch Scott in print this month (in Real Austin, Real Simple, Redbook, Austin Woman Magazine and Arizona Foothills) and (more importantly!) on Tuesdays at eight! www.KendraScott.com
