Fashion X Announces Local Photography Competition Finalists / Winners Announced!

Fashion X and Roger Beasley Mazda are proud to present a photo competition where local Austin photographers are competing to create the most stunning fashion images to compete for a hefty prize package.

The inaugural event has put the photographers to the test when they were asked to be inspired by the Mazda car brand throughout the years. While the theme may seem daunting, don’t underestimate the creative Austin photography community.

Austin Fashion Week, celebrating their 10th season is reviving a similar photo competition held in previous events and was always a community favorite. This time around the event has a stronger emphasis on the photographer.

Fashion X and Roger Beasley Mazda came together for a fun creative theme. “We both fell in love with the “Road Trip” concept, added Matt Swinney, founder of Austin Fashion Week/Fashion X. The theme was on brand for Roger Beasley Mazda and it was open-ended enough to give each photographer some breathing room for inspiration.

Each photographer was given a Pinterest board with approximately 40 images of current and vintage Mazda automobiles to gain inspiration from. “The quality of submissions was outstanding and it was an amazing experience to get to see original work from photographers who had never participated in Fashion X competitions before”, added Swinney.

For the 2018 event, all participating photographers submitted their images for review by the esteemed panel of judges. The judging panel is: Lance Avery Morgan, Madeline Hollern, Anne Hudson, George Elliman, David Heisler, Ann Kasper, Jennifer Millspaugh, Leah Frazier, Amanda Tatom, Taylor Ellison, Cassandra King Polidori.

The judges viewed all of the work with all names stripped so it was completely anonymous who the photographer and team were on each image. Of the top 10 finalists, nine out of the 10 are female photographers.

There will be two winners — a People’s Choice through online voting and a Critic’s Choice Award. The Critic’s Choice winner will get some fun Mazda loaners to take some amazing Texas road trips provided by Hotel Alessandra in Houston, St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio, The Line Hotel in Austin and more

The final event to announce the winners will be held at The Line Hotel on September 6. The public is welcome to come and celebrate all that the talented Austin photography community. Good Luck to all the finalists!
