Austin School of Fashion Design Relocates to North Central Austin

The Austin School of Fashion Design school has moved back to its Austin roots and relocated to the Gateway Shopping Center in North Central Austin. The space is located at the 360/Mopac intersections near the Best Buy, David’s Bridal and Paul Mitchell retailers.
Owner Ilonka Soto-Pelyvas (Ilonka SP) has owned the school since 2010 and has grown the business by consistently helping creative young minds grow their passion for design offering all types of classes for levels for each student.
“The space is larger and we will be able to handle more students. We are also going to continue to have glasses on the weekends, after school and will expand eventually to some evenings,” said Soto-Pelyvas.
Classes are offered in pattern making, draping and illustration and students learn how to thread a sewing machine, learn basic sewing techniques like gathering, box stitch and more.
The highly-acclaimed Fashion Academy program begins September 10 and runs through December 15. “It’s our signature program and we love the Academy because this is not for beginners. Students who fall in love with fashion design go through the journey of designing something on paper all the way to cutting, sewing and then showcasing their design at a fabulous runway show,” added Soto-Pelyvas.
Some of the ASFD students use their design education and then decide they want more and enroll in some of the most exclusive fashion institutions. Former students are currently at Parsons School of Design in New York City and one instructor will be leaving to attend a fashion program in Chicago soon.
The new school space is located at 9503 Research Blvd Suite 250, Austin, TX 78759. To find more about classes and The Academy visit their website www.austinschooloffashiondesign.com
