Austin Fashion Week – Black and Tan Fabric Show Challenge

Problem…A designer has more fabric than she can handle, can’t sew enough outfits this decade to get rid of it…what’s a girl to do?  Well, for Austin Designer Megan Summerville (and a self-proclaimed fabric hoarder) she decided to create her own fashion fabric challenge with the Austin designer community. Call it a “Project Fabric” and the challenge, if you care to accept it, was for 24 designers to take 15 yards of total fabric and create a look…all in fun but yes, it is was a competition with the winner being announced on May 11.  UPDATE:  Winner of the Black and Tan challenge was awarded to Amanda Yilmaz.  Congrats!Black and Tan
“I had 350 yards of fabric that I wanted to give away”, Summerville said.  “A black base along with a tan lace”.  Twenty-four designers took on the challenge each look strutted down the runway at Haven Friday night in front of friends, family and a supporting Austin Fashion Week crowd.
From my end of the runway vantage point, it was fun to see how each designer had their own designer twist using the yards of black fabric and lace.  Some designers took a simple route to the challenge and others went more dramatic adding loads of tulle, some with color and over the top accessories finished off the looks of many. The designers also had to have each look use 90% of the black and tan lace fabric either fabric and the rest of the look could be at the designer’s discretion.Black and Tan Tina
