Austin Designers Get a Buy from Macy's & Express on Episode One of NBC's Fashion Star
With the start of SXSW and the news of StyleCaster releasing a long list of fashionable Austin folks on a prestigious list of the 25 most stylish people AND the premier of two Austin designers who are competing for top design honors on the second season of NBC Fashion Star, well let’s say this fashion reporter couldn’t be more excited to share such great news.
NBC’s Fashion Star is the fashion program where designers create the look and you can buy it the next day from one of the three retailers in the show, Macy’s, Express and Saks Fifth Avenue. Priscilla Barrosso of the local brand Crowned Bird held her watch party at a fun vintage boutique called Charm School Vintage on the kitchy East Austin side of our fine town. I hauled my hubs to the event and we made a fun date night by taking the train and eating at one of the Plaza Saltillo food trucks. (If you have not tried Bon AppeTEX, it should be on your must try list)
The small store filled up with friends and supporters, including Season 1 designer Ross Bennett and wife Erin. Matt Swinney and his wife Carrie were also there to support our local fashion star.
Austin resident Amber Perley, was in her hometown of Dallas with her family celebrating her premier party. Hopefully we will be able to meet her during one of the several upcoming episodes. The night was an Austin two for two win. Priscilla got an 80,000 buy from Macy’s for a flirty little romper which is much in line with her collections. She told me “color is everything” and she also enjoys setting trends not following them. Amber’s show stopping dresses for Express were said to be very pleasing with a combo of modern details but also having a feminine silhouette. It was certainly on trend for color and at a price point of under $70 it will certainly be sold out soon.
We wish both designers the best of luck and will enjoy watching the success that being in the national fashion limelight will soon do to launch a new chapter in their fashion careers.
