Fashion Week in New York not only has shows that take place in the Tents at Lincoln Center but there are other shows at various locations around the city during the week. The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week was one of those featured events. The GreenShows helps promote sustainable trends in the fashion industry and support designers, manufacturers and retailers who are eco-friendly. The Milliners Guild show was one of the scheduled fashion shows and brought together 21 hat designers from all over the country to share with the press the art of hat making and their historic beauty.

Laura Del Villaggio is an Austin-based hat designer who took part in the Milliners Guild show back in September during Fashion Week. l was lucky to be at the end of the runway to shoot the show and captured her designs in the video below. Each model wore a simple black dress and the name of the designer was boldly displayed on a hat box. The hats featured in the show ranged from simple to elaborate.

Laura founded her business Milli Starr in 1999. She creates her hats with the finest materials she can find from straws to wools and incorporates vintage sequins, feathers and other materials to make sure each hat is meticulously handcrafted and unique.

Laura is a UT Austin graduate with a double major in History and Apparel Designer. She continued her education and attended the graduate program in Museum Studies: Costume and Textiles at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. She continued her education and completed the Millinery Certificate Program.

Most recently Laura has opened up a space at the new Cypress Vanguard. It is local fashion house/co-op that offers personalized services for those who want a one-of-a-kind Austin fashion experience.
